High tea: Castle Hotel, Dirleton.
12th November 2011, Dirleton, East Lothian
Based on Alexander's John Muir Way suggestion, we met in Dirleton, East Lothian, and walked to the coast at Yellowcraig and along the beach to the west, which started to disappear under the tide, curtailing our adventures. We dined in style, firstly having a leisurely lunch in the sun at the beach, then an excellent meal at the Castle Hotel in Dirleton.
What if it's wet?: The Scottish Sea Bird Centre in North Berwick comes recommended by Margaret, Frank and whoever gave them their 5 star award. Dirleton Castle and gardens are also open from 9.30 till 4.30 on the day.
How to get to the walk:The A198 follows the coast through Prestonpans, Longniddry, Aberlady and Gullane. You can join this road in Musselburgh, or from the A1 at Tranent. When you get to Dirleton, turn left onto the B1345, and the pub will be on your left. Hopefully it will be signposted for the castle. If you're using satnav, the postcode is EH39 5EP.
